Due diligence on the domestic front is a logical extension of the wars we are currently fighting abroad. With a standardized risk mitigation program headed by the Department of Homeland Security, we can simultaneously lessen our susceptibility to terrorist attacks and improve our ability to recover if an attack is carried out.

The ASCE Infrastructure Champion (IC) Program serves as a conduit for the ASCE Committee on Critical Infrastructure (CCI) to ASCE local units. The IC Program provides grassroots leadership regarding critical infrastructure protection, security, and resiliency from the effects of multihazards. Areas addressed include planning, design, preparedness, procurement, construction, operation and maintenance, as well as event response, mitigation, and recovery. The IC Program provides local guidance to build coalitions that undertake activities in critical infrastructure resilience.

IC VISION

The ASCE Infrastructure Champions (IC) Program is a grassroots network of engineering leaders advocating the value of critical infrastructure assets and their resiliency.

IC MISSION

Infrastructure Champions develop and promote critical infrastructure related activities within their Branch, Section, and Region on issues related to vulnerability and multihazard planning, design, preparedness, procurement, construction, operation and maintenance, mitigation, response, and recovery. ICs liaise with CCI and other ASCE Branches, Sections, and Regions.

In March of 2006, Dan Martin was selected to serve as the national Infrastructure Champion lead.  CCI is seeking other professionals interested in taking a lead in promoting homeland security and multihazard critical infrastructure resilience in each ASCE Section and Region.  To join the ASCE IC program, please complete the IC application form and forward to your Section President for review and approval.  To learn more about the IC Program, contact:
